Finally Friday

My eldest brofur, the Hisser and Growler, was put  in a PTU this morning and hauled off to the v-e-t.  He is getting a dental and getting his stud tail checked.  Hopefully he will be less growly and hissy after this.

Another Loss

We lost another kitty in the blogosphere earlier this week.  Tamir crossed the bridge after being diagnosed with kidney disease.  We didn't know Tamir well, but we are still sorry to learn of his passing.  If you haven't already, please go leave some nice words for htem, we know they would appreciate it.

As for us, well we are just moving along.  Junior is still hissy, and Sammy continues to bother him.  Meowm is about at her wits end, but at least there haven't been nasty battles.  Well none that she is aware of anyway.

We are enjoying more window whiffies now, as the evenings get cooler.  We love that, but arenot looking forward to the very cold weather.

Meowm has not seen any progress towards helping the community cats in our apartment complex.  Every time she asks about waht is being done, she gets a "We aren't sure.  Let us check into that and we will get back to you."  Then they never get back to her.  She is not a happy camper, as other things that were supposed to get done, have not been done either.  But she is still going to go talk to them again.

Not much else to report.  We are just being typical loving and bratty mancats!  :)

Conversation with a Mancat

Junior:  I are the numero uno mancat in this house, and that young whippersnapper better figure it out soon!

Meowm:  Junior, yes you are the oldest mancat in this house,a nd you are the first mancat that adopted me, but as far as I can tell Sammy simply wants to play.

Junior:  Meowm you know I am not big on playing with other cats.  I don't play with Orion.  Sammy just needs to keep his distance.  I will be sitting there minding my own buisness and he sits down and just stares at me.  I don't like it.  And then sometimes he starts playing with my tail, and you know I am having issues with it still.

Meowm:  I know Junior.  And speaking of your tail, you need to be nicer to me when I medicate your tail.  I am trying to figure out the dynamics between you and Sammy.  You just need to try to calm down a bit while this is happening.

Junior:  I am trying Meowm, I am trying.  You know sometimes Orion pounces on me too, with no provocation!

Meowm: I know Junior.  I have seen that, and you know that Orion and Sammy get tossed out of the bedroom at night for awhile if things are getting to tense.

Junior:  I know you are trying Meowm, just like I am.

Meowm:  Well,  you all will have to visit the v-e-t the end of October.  All ofyou will be getting dentals, and I think maybe that will help you feel a bit better.

Junior:  I think it will help Meowm.  Is it the weekend Meowm?

Meowm:  Yes it is.

Junior:  Will you cuddle with me extra this weekend?

Meowm:  I certainly will sweet boy.

Junior and Meowm:  Everyone have a great weekend!

There's Nothing I Can Do To Help Them

Meowm Rhonda taking over today.  I heard this the other day, or rather I read it, and it really makes me angry.  The context of the conversation was about photos of abused animals or ones that need homes, and a person said this.  Well, I am here to tell you that you can help.  Maybe not the particular one in a certain photo, but you can help others.  And I will share with you just some of the ways you can help.

Donate
Even one dollar can help.  One dollar every now and then can help make a difference in an animals life.  Skip that ice cream cone, skip that coke, skip something and donate a dollar.

Need to clean some stuff out of your house?  Gather it all up and hold a yard sale.  Donate the proceeds to a rescue or shelter, or one you may see online needing some help.

Check with local shelters and rescues, see if they have annual yard sales, donate your stuff to them.

Hang onto the items and donate them to the CB when they have auctions for members of the CB.

Save your change and donate it at the end of they year.  Don't want to donate all that change?  Donate the pennies only, or the nickels only.  Everything helps!

Donate old towels, blankets, gently used toys to rescues and shelters.  They can always use them.

Make a monthly, bi-monthly, every 6 month, or annual donation of food/litter to a local rescue or shelter.

Check wish lists that rescues and shelters have and see if you can donate something from that list.

Volunteer
Volunteer your time to a local shelter or rescue.  Go walk the dogs or play with the cats.

Petsmart and Petco both have animals up for adoption.  Volunteer to go in and clean cages, play with the animals up for adoption.

Click on daily websites:
 freekibble.com
 freekibblekat.com
The Animal Rescue Site

These websites donate food for every click.  Make use of it.

Is there an animal food drive going on somewhere in your area?  Volunteer to help out.

Maintain or help maintain a feral colony.  This means help with TNR and feed the colonies on a regular basis.   Get to know the cats of the colony, watch for any that need medical attention, or any newcomers that may have babies or need spayed/neutered.

Build shelters for the ferals to use.  Either use them for your own colony or talk to a rescue that sells them to the public and help build them for that reason.

You know those walks people do for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses?  They do walks for animals too.  Sign up for one.   Get people to sponsor you, just like you do for the human walks.

Want to help out wild animals?  Volunteer to clean up a stretch of highway.   The less trash they have to pick thru along the highways and streets, the less likely they are to be clipped by traffic or killed by traffic.  This helps birds as well because with no trash, no rodents are going thru it, so they have no reason to go near these places.  I just visited the local aviary here and we have 2 Golden Eagles and a Bald Eagle who have injured wings because of this happening.

Hang bird feeders, especially in the Winter.

These are just a few things that Meowm though of off hte top of her head and from a simple search on the internet.

WE CAN ALL DO SOMETHING TO HELP.  It may not be a big thing, but little things help as well.  You just have to want to help, rather than sit back and let others do the job.

Have any suggestions that I missed?  Feel free to share them in the comments.

Wowie Wednesday

Now I know what it is like to have Grandpawrents!  I met mine for the first time this past weekend!  I was, of course, a bit spooked at first.  But I got brave and started letting them pet me.  I let Grandmeowm pet me first, the eventually I let Grandpaw pet me.  It was actually very nice to have extra people to scritch me!  It still spooked me if they moved to quickly, but I spent quite a bit of time in the living room with all of them.  I just don't quite know what to think.  I am told I have an Uncle too, but Meowm says he doesn't come visit.  She thinks that when he came and visited her in Las Vegas that it scarred him since he hasn't come to visit her home ever since.  (Meowm was chuckling when she told me that).  Anyway, it was great fun to have them here.  I also got to smell all kinds of smells that they brought with them, and then even more when they would all come back from wandering around half the day!

Every one have a great week, for the rest of it!
