Meezer Monday

Meowm is feeling a bit like a not so good Meowm right now. It appears I have stud tail, both Orion and I have broken out with feline acne and she is still dealing with Sammy's ears. She is feeling overwhelmed and feeling like nothing she is doing is helping.

It is becoming more of a battle to get Sammy's ears cleaned. The antibiotics are gone and she thinks his ears are just dirty now, but he runs from her when he thinks she is going to put stuff in them. And he is having diarrhea, so she has some fortiflora on the way to hopefully help him with that.

She is going to try to wash my tail every other day and see if that helps before she takes me to the v-e-t. You can imagine how much fun that is for both of us. She noticed the other night that I had very warm ears, but wrote it off to the fact that maybe I had my head curled up into my body and they were just warm from that. But she read something about a cats ears and fever, so now combined with the stud tail and the still quite warm ears, well it looks like I will be visiting the v-e-t after all.

As for the acne Orion and I have, she is trying to find a good food, without it being to expensive. So far it doesn't seem to be working to well.

We could all use some purrs please.

yuck....

we used to have acne here. mom switch us over to ceramic bowls and makes sure they get cleaned at least once per week. and you can use those clearisil pads to clean the chins.

we hope you guys are feeling better soon (and maybe mom can take sammy to the v-e-t to get his ears cleaned out really well once and for all)

Mommy is sending your Meowm BIG HUGS! She says she understands all too well feeling pet stressed. As long as the acne doesn't get all swollen or abscessed, the best she can do it keep it clean. It may clear up on it's own...Kona periodically has breakouts. Two kittis here have FILTHY ears, they are just wax factories. Mommy cleans them once a week with wipes, and we tolerate it pretty well.

Mommy Trish here: Rene from "It's all about the Cats" uses this for her boy Tucker's acne:

Tucker has long battled it, and now Sadie has started. For minor acne, we use Hibiclens (found at drug stores; Walgreens has their brand for cheaper). It's not as drying as other cleansers. Use it once per day on a cotton ball and scrub the chin.

For more moderate/severe outbreaks, our vet has given us Pyoben (about $10 for a small bottle). Good news: it works GREAT and clears the acne up nicely. Bad news: it is very drying, so use it spraringly (max of once per day), and removes the hair (it will grow back, but it's pretty shocking initially).

I hope this helps! xx Trish

It's bad enough when one of us kitties is having problems, but when all three kitties have it, it's really awful! I hope you guys are all better soon. I don't know what your human can do about Sammy's ears. No kitty likes his or her ears being messed with.

Wow, we are sorry ta hear about the undignified problems! We HAVE read that cat acne is often caused by plastic waterbowls. We have a ceramic doggie bowl now (it holds more water).

Yikes! We're purring for you all, including your mom. Definitely get rid of plastic dishes, if you eat from those.

Crossing our paws for you all. Our mom understands the feeling of being overwhelmed (and at least in her case, unable to cope) only too well.

Hugs and kitty kisses.

When Harley was at his worst with the EGC, he got terrible acne and my Mommeh was at her wits end trying everything. It seems counter-intuitive, but a squirt of good fish-oil supplement on the food might help.
