Delta Airlines-You Suck!!!!!

Your response to the worth of the Sphynx kitten, Snickers, who froze to death on one of your flights, is a slap in every animal lovers face, not to mention a slap to God's face, as every animal is one of God's animals. You placed a value of $10 on Snickers life.....SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!! While I have made it clear that I feel the kitten should have never been shipped this time of year, your conclusion to the worth of this animals life is absurd. I eagerly await karma to bite you on the butt!

I will never fly your airline again, and I intend on sharing this story with everyone I know and will encourage them to boycott you as well!

While we were horrified that anyone would fly a kitten in such cold weather we were equally horrified that Delta would allow that. Additionally--$10? HUH?! REALLY. If all life is figured like that--what is a human worth? $75?

I am saddest of all for Snickers, but I am still angry at all the humans involved..I initially posted a response on the first two places I found this posted, Pawcurious and Petopia and had to talk to my therapist as I was so upset. This was my response:

Oh, this made me tear up and then my bp went up,and then I teared up again. This was sooooo preventable. I am both a veterinary technician and a breeder of Cornish Rex cats (and also have a pet Sphynx). I have been breeding CRex since 1989 and have flown many cats in cargo and while I am anxious every time, I follow the airlines requirements to the letter. I NEVER ship when it is NOT between 45-85 degrees; I NEVER ship before 16 weeks of age; I ALWAYS use a Vari-Kennel 100 (which now run about $75) and I ALWAYS send them with a Snuggle Safe if the temperature is lower than 60 degrees. I ALWAYS get a direct flight or I don’t fly them–the owner would need to fly out and get them so they could fly in the cabin with them (and I have had people use their frequent flyer miles to do just that).

But I also have a 4 page adoption application that starts out the adoption process and it doesn’t take long for me to ‘weed’ out people (who would insist on flying a cat in such conditions, etc).

I have also found that so much depends on who answers the phone, both at the airline and at the veterinarians office, too. Sometimes neither knows the requirements or why those requirements are there–for the protection of the animal, NOT for the convenience of the shipper or consignee!

I do not know how, in good conscience the breeder could have shipped that kitten, or how a veterinarian could have signed off on it! Your post certainly says what any good vet should have said…I can’t ok shipping this kitten now.

As bad as this sounds, I am not making it up…I know a former breeder that said her vet used to just give her the signed health certificate and she fills it out…

I am saddened that this little kitten had to lose it’s live because of multiple people being incompetent. Irresponsible people are irresponsible in all areas of their lives, not just with their pets…

Oh, and I always purchase $1500 in insurance, too. Unfortunately the family adopting Snickers did not have a breeder who was knowledgeable about these things it appears...and the kitten paid for their ignorance with it's life. I am still not over this and have tears in my eyes (and I'm at work--at a cat hospital)

I love yours and Teri's words here. Your blog and Teri's comment here and what she said and did.

I could not read the article. I have protected my eyes from it because I know I would stay emotional a long time and that would not do the precious little lost one any good. I DO know that whenever and wherever I can, I will try to educate people as to the horrors of taking things for granted.

Okays, I'm back and I read to catch up. What a tragic story. Sounds to me like like da breeder should haves known better to ship da kitteh too.
But haow can you possibly put a price on something breathing???????

I saw this yesterday, and my human and I are both beyond words! Delta's callous attitude has lost them another customer - my human will never fly them again. Her boyfriend already does not fly them because he had a bad experience with them with his musical equipment.

Delta airlines has such a bad reputation for customer service, I would never fly with them, and I will also tell all my friends how bad they are.
